New Beta Features: AI Card Scanner & Collection Price Refresh

AI Card Scanner & Collection Price Refresh — Now in Beta

Two of the most requested features are here: snap a photo of any card to add it to your collection, and refresh your collection's market prices with a single tap. Both features are available now as a public beta.

We want to be upfront: these are early versions. They work well in most cases, but they're not perfect yet. Here's what they do, where they shine, and where we're still improving.

Card Scanner: From Photo to Collection in Seconds#

The Card Scanner uses AI-powered image recognition to identify trading cards from a photo. Take a picture with your phone camera or upload an image, and Byndr will attempt to identify the card, its set, card number, and rarity — then add it directly to your collection.

How It Works

  1. Open any project and switch to the Scan tab
  2. Take a photo or upload an image of your card
  3. The AI analyzes the image and identifies the card
  4. If a match is found, it's added to your collection automatically

Behind the scenes, Byndr sends the image to a vision AI model that reads the card's text, artwork, and layout. The recognized card is then matched against our database of thousands of cards across multiple providers.

Multi-Language Support

Collect cards in different languages? The scanner recognizes cards printed in English, German, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian, and more. It identifies the printed name and automatically maps it to the official English name used in our database. So whether your Charizard says "Glurak" or "リザードン", Byndr will find the right match.

Wrong Game? No Problem

Accidentally scan a Pokémon card while browsing your One Piece collection? Byndr detects the mismatch and shows you a prompt to switch to the correct project — or create a new one. The scan data carries over, so you won't need to re-scan the card.

What to Expect in Beta

The scanner works best with:

  • Cards in good lighting with minimal glare
  • Cards that are fully visible (not cropped or covered)
  • Popular sets with complete data in our provider system

Where it may struggle:

  • Promo cards and special editions that share artwork with other cards
  • Very new sets that haven't been fully synced to our database yet
  • Heavily damaged or foil cards where text is hard to read
  • Accuracy is not 100% — the AI may occasionally misidentify a card or return a different printing from the same set

We always show you the identified card before adding it, so you can verify the match. If the scanner picks the wrong card, you can dismiss the result and search manually.

Beta note: Card recognition accuracy varies by card condition, lighting, and set coverage. We're continuously improving the AI model and our matching logic. If you run into misidentifications, the feedback helps us get better.

Collection Price Refresh: Keep Your Value Up to Date#

Your collection's value isn't static — card prices fluctuate with the market. Until now, Byndr only captured the price at the moment you added a card. The new Price Refresh feature updates market prices across your entire collection using cached price data from our provider system.

How It Works

  1. Go to the Value tab in any project
  2. Click Refresh Prices
  3. Byndr matches each card in your collection against our price database
  4. Updated prices are written back to your cards
  5. A new value snapshot is created for your collection history chart

The refresh reads from our existing price caches — the same data that powers the Chase Cards panel. It groups your cards by set, looks up each set's cached prices, and matches by card number and name.

What Gets Updated

  • Market price (USD) from TCGplayer data
  • Market price (EUR) from Cardmarket data where available
  • Value snapshots for your collection's historical value chart
  • Top card rankings and value breakdowns by set and rarity

What to Expect in Beta

Price data quality depends on several factors:

  • Coverage varies by set. Popular recent sets like Scarlet & Violet have excellent price data. Older or niche sets may have gaps.
  • Prices update on a cache schedule. The price data comes from our Chase Cards system, which caches per-set prices with a 24-hour cooldown. If you haven't loaded prices for a set in the Chase Cards panel, that set will be skipped during collection refresh.
  • Collection refresh has a 4-hour cooldown to prevent excessive database writes.
  • Not every card will get a price match. Cards with unusual numbering or name variants may not match perfectly between providers.

For the most accurate results, we recommend loading prices for your key sets in the Chase Cards panel first, then running a collection refresh.

Beta note: Price accuracy depends on our upstream providers (TCGplayer, Cardmarket via TCGdex and PokemonTCG.io). Prices may be delayed, incomplete, or occasionally incorrect. Always cross-reference with marketplace listings for high-value transactions.

What's Next#

Both features are actively being improved. Here's what's on our roadmap:

  • Batch scanning — scan multiple cards in quick succession without returning to the idle screen
  • Scan history — review and re-add previously scanned cards
  • Automatic price refresh — scheduled background updates so your values stay current without manual action
  • Expanded TCG coverage — the scanner already recognizes Pokémon, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering, Lorcana, and Digimon. Price data support for non-Pokémon TCGs is in development
  • Improved matching accuracy — better handling of promo cards, alternate arts, and regional printings

Try It Out#

Both features are available now to all registered users at no additional cost. Open any project, try the scanner on a card from your desk, and hit refresh on your value tracker.
